Art Movement of my Choice

“Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place. Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better looking place.”
— Banksy (Wall and Piece)

Art Movement: Street Art
Artist: Banksy

After going through the many Art Movements available, I have decided to go with the one I feel that suits me the most which is Street Art.

What is Street Art?
Originally a tool that marks the territorial boundaries of urban youths.
Have not been given a simple definition.
Though considered a nuisance by some, others see it as a form of art and beauty that display and expresses how people feel about political issues.

Is it a form of Vandalism?
A frequently asked question. Some believe it is, but..
" In an interview with the Queens Tribune, New York City’s Queens Museum of Art Executive Director Tom Finkelpearl said public art “is the best way for people to express themselves in this city. ".

There are many forms of street art such as traditional street art, stickers, mosaic, video projections, street installation, flash mobbing and many more.

Banksy:
- uses this "smart vandalism" method to raise awareness about the social and political issues around the world. Banksy is a street artist who's artwork have already appeared in many places around the world such as London and other counties as well. His art is an original form of street that that often is combined with a distinctive stencilling to promote alternative aspect of political issues aside from those shown by the mainstream media.

Some of his art work:

Conceptual vs Perceptual

Although most of us see art as just drawings consisting of lines, colours and shades; art itself is much more complex than we think. Thus, today I'll be going a little into what is Conceptual arts and also what is Perceptual arts

"In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art. - Sol LeWitt"

To make it sound more simpler, Conceptual art is basically
a contemporary form of artistic representation, in which a specific concept or idea, often personal, complex and inclusive, takes shape in an abstract, nonconforming manner, based upon a negation of aesthetic principles. It is not the same as "Concept art"  These are concept arts.

 These are Conceptual arts.

While on the other hand, Perceptual art may be interpreted as the engagement of multi-sensory experiential stimuli combined with the multiplicity of interpretive meanings on the part of an observer. Sometimes, the role of observer is obscured as members of the public may unwittingly or unknowingly be participants in the creation of the artwork itself. It is very often what is generally called "
performance art."

It can be also considered as Optical Illusions or drawings that may give different perception when different people view them.

Example of Perceptual arts

Ain't it all amusing? :)

About Me, Myself and MyDreams

My name is Denzie Cheah and I'm currently in my 1st year 3rd semester of my Psychology degree program in HELP University. My reason for taking psychology is so that I can have a better understanding on not only myself but also the people around me. It actually struck me that the human mind is so complex and profound that I wanted to know more into detail about it.

I've decided to take up this design class as an elective as I think I could use the skills in the near future. Not only that, designing has been a hobby to me since a very young age as I love to draw. Aside from that, I also want to take this opportunity to learn on how to use Adobe Photoshop in more detail to improve my designing skills and also have fun while editing photos of my friends and I.

My dream for success is not to be a well-known psychologist but someone who is able to understand the people around me as well as being able to have a highly active social life. I want to be able to understand all kinds of people and also be able to mix around well with others. My vision is to understand people regardless their differences because we are all the same. Skin, races, religion are no way to define someone. That is why I will give it my all to become the man I want to be.
